Polokwane City Promoted to PSL
The 2022/2023 National First Division (NFD) season has now come to an end, and reigning champions Polokwane City FC are leaving the second-tier soccer league on a high note.
Taking on the Pretoria Callies at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo on Sunday evening, 14 May, the home team delivered in a fiery fashion against their foes in the first half: all four goals were scored by Samuel Nana, Francis Baloyi, Puleng Marema and Bulelani Nikani, respectively.
The final score came to 4-0: as a result of their triumphant victory, City walked away with the NFD championship, as well as R5 million in prize money.
Most importantly, they have been promoted back into the Premier Soccer League, from which they had been relegated in 2020.
Rejoining the big boys, will Polokwane City be able to prove their mettle against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United? Guess we’ll have to find out when the 2023/2024 season rolls around!
